MIXED REALITY EXPERIENCE FOR MERCEDES-BENZ GLOBAL TRAINING

To ensure that Mercedes-Benz sales representatives can offer their customers top-quality consultancy services all around the world, they receive training through the Mercedes-Benz Global Training Experience. This way, the latest models and technological developments are introduced to them. For the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class a mixed reality experience was conceived and developed by using Microsoft’s HoloLens technology which enables participants to explore the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class and get to know the latest features. At the center of it all is the physically existing A-Class which is complemented by virtual information using the HoloLens data glasses developed by Microsoft. Participants move around the car as part of a six-minute guided tour during which the activities of sensors and cameras become visible. Case studies explain the mechanics and performance characteristics. Users come to learn, for example, how a possible collision can be identified, receiving practical information that is important when consulting customers.

Through the data glasses users experience what the A-Class “sees” and how it reacts to what it “sees”. The car, for example, reacts to other virtually projected traffic participants that move within its detection range. Towards the end of the virtually augmented car tour all assistance systems are shown in action. This makes the complexity understandable and the function of the individual systems becomes apparent in conjunction with each other.
